Family Resources
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation provides a number of programs and resources for the families of fallen firefighters. We want you to know that you are not alone. There are others who understand your loss and honor your loved one's memory.
Fire Service Survivor Programs:
  • Fire Service Survivors Network - Only a survivor can fully understand another survivor's experiences. Simply connecting with someone else who has lost a beloved firefighter can offer a sense of hope. Members of this special network remind new survivors that they are not alone.
  • Remembrance Program - During the anniversary month of their firefighter's death, families receive a Remembrance card written by another survivor.
  • Fire Service Survivors Conference - This special week of activities is designed to address issues that survivors have indicated an interest in and to provide a chance to network with other survivors.
  • Memorial Weekend - Every October, the Foundation sponsors the official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line-of-duty during the previous year. The weekend features special programs for survivors and co-workers along with public ceremonies.

Department Resources
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation provides a number of programs and resources for the fire service. We help departments deal with the tragedy of losing a firefighter in the line-of-duty.
Fire Department Programs and Training:
  • Everyone Goes Home - Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives Program was developed to help the U.S. Fire Administration achieve its objective of reducing the number of firefighter fatalities by 25% within 5 years, and by 50% within 10 years.
  • Taking Care of Our Own®
This one-day training program covers pre-incident planning, survivor notification, family and co-worker support, and benefits and resources available to the families.
  • Chief-to-Chief Network
The Foundation has a network of senior fire officers who have one thing in common. They have all experienced the death of a firefighter in the line-of-duty and understand what a department goes through.
  • Local Assistance State Teams
Local Assistance State Teams are local groups that will assist you in dealing with a line-of-duty death in your department.
